Cobden-Sanderson in der Doves Bindery im Jahr 1900), Buchrücken mit 6 Bünden, in der Original-Klappbox, mit Titeletikett am Rücken. Folio: 43 × 31 cm; pp. [4], ii, 554, [2]. Mit 1 Frontispiz und 87 Holzschnitten von Edward Burne-Jones, 18 ganzseitigen Titelbordüren, 26 grossen und über 500 kleineren Initialen sowie der Kelmscott Press Druckermarke im Kolophon. Gedruckt auf Oxenford twin-wire Bütten. Ausgestattet mit dreiseitigem Goldschnitt.

Beigegeben: Lose beigelegt ist eine Broschüre mit einem Essay von William S. Peterson: The Kelmscott Chaucer, Folio Society, 2002, sowie ein Handzettel zum Bucheinband (wie ausgegeben).

Zustand: Abgesehen von einer leichten Verbiegung an einer Ecke der Klappbox, in nahezu neuwertigem Zustand.

Notizen: Diese Ausgabe der «Works of Geoffrey Chaucer» ist eine originalgetreue Faksimile-Ausgabe der Kelmscott Press-Ausgabe von 1896 und gehört zu den am aufwendigsten produzierten Büchern, die jemals von der Folio Society publiziert wurden.

Description: Bound in cream Nigerian goatskin, richly blocked in gilt (design based on an edition of the Kelmscott Chaucer, bound by T.J. Cobden-Sanderson at the Doves Bindery in 1900), raised bands to spine, housed in a blue cloth clamshell box with title label to spine. Folio: 43 × 31 cm; pp. [4], ii, 554, [2]. With a frontispiece and 87 woodcuts by Edward Burne-Jones, 18 large border designs, 26 large, over 500 smaller initial letters and Kelmscott Press “Chaucer” mark at the colophons designed by William Morris. Printed on Oxenford twin-wire laid paper. All edges gilt. Enclosed: Loosely inserted a booklet containing an essay by William S. Peterson: The Kelmscott Chaucer, Folio Society, 2002 and a handout about the binding (as issued). Condition: Aside from a slight bend to a clamshell box corner, this item is in almost mint condition. Notes: This edition of The Works of Geoffrey Chaucer is an accurate facsimile of the 1896 Kelmscott Press edition, and is one of the most elaborate books ever published by the Folio Society.
